An IPTV app is a player. It supplies no content itself, but shows what your service or source provides. The choice of app mainly affects usability, programme guide and stability.
What to compare
- Programme guide (EPG): How easy is it to see what is on, and can it be customised?
- Playlists: Support for several lists and automatic updating
- Profiles: Important if several people in the household share a service
- Favourites and search
- Stability and updates: How often is the app updated?
- Platform support: Apps differ a lot between Apple, Android and Samsung
- Price: Some apps are free with limitations, others require a purchase or subscription
Apple devices
Common choices are GSE Smart IPTV, which many appreciate for its interface, IPTV Smarters Pro with support for several profiles and iPlayTV with a good programme guide. The app store range changes, so check current availability.
Android and Android TV
TiviMate is known for its programme guide and many customisation options, and has a paid version for full functionality. In our 2024 test it cost 139 SEK per year or 399 SEK as a one-off purchase, but prices may have changed. Perfect Player offers a flexible interface and IPTV Smarters Pro is also available here, with several user profiles.
Samsung Smart TV
Smart IPTV (easy to install), SS IPTV (own playlists) and MXL IPTV are often mentioned here. Availability depends on the TV model and model year.
Security
- Install only from official app stores
- Avoid apps that ask for unnecessary permissions
- Do not enter payment details in a player you do not trust
How to choose
- Find out which apps your TV or device supports.
- Try the free version before you buy.
